For Navin Gopal, the two years he spent earning his Tippie MBA have been transformational.
“I did a lot of research before choosing a full-time MBA program. I wanted an international experience from a top 50 international MBA program that would provide me with the tools to succeed. I received that, but much, much more,” he says.
In his two years with Tippie, Navin’s global education included studying on several continents. In addition to his time in Iowa, he participated in the Exploration China course that took place in Hong Kong, interned in Washington, D.C. and Milan, and spent a semester in an MBA exchange program in the Netherlands.
“These experiences have expanded my perspective; helped me build contacts and relationships with classmates in Europe and alumni in Hong Kong; and better prepared me for work in today’s global economy,” he states.
Navin came to Iowa from Mumbai where he was running his own travel firm focused on adventure travel. While he has a degree in engineering from the University of Pune, he knew that he needed additional business training to take his professional career to the next level. He was attracted to the Tippie Full-time MBA Program because it provided a strong focus in strategic thinking and the value and payback rate can’t be beat.
The College's Institute for International Business (IIB) provided assistance that helped Navin take advantage of an exchange program with RSM Erasmus University in the Netherlands. While he completed his summer internship, IIB Assistant Director Ann Knudson followed his application through the process, helped with VISA documentation, and kept him informed of his progress.
Navin’s four months in the Netherlands gave him the opportunity to take additional strategy courses and gain the European perspective on emerging global markets. It also expanded his professional and personal network as he gained lifelong friendships from his time abroad.
“Beyond my classroom learning, professional development, and global opportunities, the aspect I treasure the most about my time at Tippie has been the relationships that I have developed,” explains Navin. “It’s hard to describe, but the people are what makes it so special. I call it ‘The Tippie Way,’ and it is an experience that will have a profound effect on me for years and years to come.”
