Frontier Co-op Case Competition

Are you interested in developing student-driven solutions to a real-world sustainable business problem? Then this contest is right up your alley. For seven years, the Tippie College of Business has partnered with Frontier Co-op to host a competition focused on sustainability in business.

Kicking off the competition with a virtual launch event, Frontier Co-op will introduce a sustainable business problem for students to solve. Relevant training and coaching will be provided along the way. Teams will submit a video pitch of their solution, and a group of judges will decide which teams will move to the final round. Finalists will present their sustainable business solution to a panel of judges for a chance to win cash prizes, totaling $4,500. The finals will be part of the One Sustainable Iowa Conference.

How it works

Attend the launch event

Connect with other teammates and receive training. During the session, each team will be given a real-world sustainable business challenge developed by Frontier Co-op. A meal will be provided to students who attend the launch event in-person. After the launch event, students will have a week to work through the business problem. All students attending a higher education institution in Iowa are eligible to participate in the competition.

Receive coaching

During the competition, participants will receive guidance and feedback from faculty and professional coaches. Following the launch event, participants will work with coaches to articulate the value of their solution for customers, the business, stakeholders, the environment, and society.

Submit your video

Teams must submit a video recording of their solution to the sustainable business problem. A panel of judges will evaluate the video submissions and select the top teams to move on to the final round.

Participate in the Frontier Co-op Case Competition finals

The finalists will present their sustainable business solution to a panel of judges. Finalists will be evaluated based on the quality of their presentation, effectiveness of the business solution, and the degree to which the team is making an impact towards addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals. Specific judging criteria will be provided to participants. All finalists will win cash prizes.
