New General Education Requirements—Effective Summer 2011
Effective Summer 2011, all students entering the University of Iowa will be held to the new general education requirements. The new general education requirements include some name changes in various general education categories, and most importantly, a significant change in the world language requirement.
Students may fulfill the new world language requirement in one of two ways:
Option 1: complete four semesters of the same world language (fourth-level proficiency), or
Option 2: complete two semesters of two different world languages (second-level proficiency). Either requirement may be fulfilled by the appropriate high school.
Note: Students admitted to the University of Iowa prior to Summer 2011 will not be held to the new general education requirements. However, students who are readmitted, after an absence of more than 12 months, will be held to the general education requirements at the time of their readmission.
