Combine your curiosity about world cultures with coursework in international business. The International Business Certificate (IBC) adds an international dimension to your undergraduate degree with globally focused coursework, plus study abroad and language study options.
The range of courses permits students to tailor areas of specialization suited to their individual interests and to complement majors in business and in liberal arts and sciences.
Four areas of study
Coursework revolves around four areas that will help you develop an understanding of the economic and cultural forces that shape the global business environment.
Global business foundation
Global business foundation courses provide students with an essential understanding of economics, which is central to all business operation. They also help students develop knowledge of the functional areas of international business.

Global politics
Students will gain deeper knowledge of cross-cultural issues and think critically about broader dynamics.

Environmental, social, and corporate governance
Students will demonstrate ethical reasoning in dealing with environmental, social, and governance issues in international business.

Cultural immersion
Students will cultivate effective written, spoken, and visual communication skills necessary in cross-cultural organizational settings. They will also gain deeper knowledge of cross-cultural issues and think critically about broader dynamics. There are three options for fulfilling the cultural immersion requirement.

Declare the IBC
Students should declare their intention to earn the certificate as early as possible, talk with an advisor about certificate requirements, and work to create an individual plan of study.
You can declare the IBC by logging into MyUI and navigating to Student Information > Advising > Programs of Study and Advisors.
Talk with the advising staff at the Tippie's Undergraduate Program Office.
Earn the certificate
To earn the certificate, students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in all coursework. It is also important to note that students much complete a minimum of 21 hours of certificate coursework (other than language courses).
14 hours must be completed at the UI or approved study abroad programs. 7 hours of transferred coursework may be applied towards the certificate.
