RMI Scholarships

The following scholarships are normally offered to RMI students at the University of Iowa. For most awards, students apply through the Tippie College's Undergraduate Program Office beginning in January. For information on all scholarships dedicated to Vaughan Institute students, contact

Iowa Insurance and Financial Services Education Foundation (IIFSEF) Scholarship

Award Amount: $2,500
Number of Awards: 2
Criteria: U.S. citizen, sophomore and above, minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference given to students with insurance industry-related experience. Application requires a written essay and personal interview for finalists chosen by the institute's scholarship committee. Preference given to students available to complete an internship with an IIFSEF-arranged internship.

Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa Scholarship

Award Amount: Typically $1,000 to $1,500 each
Number of Awards: Usually 2-4 each year
Criteria: 2.75 or better GPA, RMI student, U.S. citizen, preference given to students from Iowa and those who wish to remain in Iowa. Renewable.

Principal Financial Group Foundation Scholarship

Award Amount: $1,500
Number of Awards: 2
Criteria: 3.2 GPA, U.S. citizen, RMI student. Renewable

Greater Quad Cities Risk and Insurance Management Society

Award Amount: $2,500
Number of Awards: 1-2 awards annually
Criteria: 3.0 GPA, certificate student who has completed at least 6F:102. Students are encouraged to become involved with the RIMS chapter.

Iowa Insurance Hall of Fame Scholarship

Award Amount: $1,000
Number of Awards: 1
Criteria: Essay and application required. 3.27 GPA, U.S. citizen from the state of Iowa, junior or senior standing.

Emmett J. Vaughan Memorial Scholarship (supported by the Cedar Valley Chapter of the CPCU)

Award Amount: $1,000
Number of Awards: 1
Criteria: 3.0 GPA, preference to a student from the Cedar Valley (Waterloo, Quad Cities, eastern Iowa), preference to a certificate student who has completed the core courses 6F:102 and 6F:104.

Young Professionals and Alumni Scholarship

Award amount and number of awards vary according to the amount donated to the fund by young professionals and alumni. A young alumnus began this scholarship as a way to encourage other recent grads to give back.
