RMI Student News

Have you found a job or internship for the summer?
Please let Viana Rockel know your plans for the summer, if you have found a job or internship. If you won't be checking your email account, please also send an email where we can reach you.

We are optimistic that you are doing well finding employment. Dana Ramundt shared a Midwest Region Insurance Journal article (February 20, 2012) about the gains in employment in the insurance industry that you may find interesting. We are aware that more recruiters are seeking RMI students, and this validates our observations.

Corporate and Financial Risk Management
Don't forget to sign up for Corporate and Financial Risk Management in the fall. We won't offer this class in the spring and it is a required class for all RMI Certificate students.

Meet Industry Leaders at Golf Outings-You don't have to golf to attend.
Both golf outings support students of the Vaughan Institute. Hold the following dates on your calendars. All RMI students are encouraged to attend. You'll have fun while meeting industry leaders from companies located in the Midwest. Details will be provided later.

Iowa State Licensure Class Cancelled
Study Materials Available Free of Charge.

We won't hold a state licensure class this year; however, study materials valued at $85 are available free of charge in the Institute's offices. Any Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) student (US Citizen) who wants to attend the regularly scheduled study sessions that the IIAI offers in West Des Moines can do so free of charge while you are registered for classes at the UI. To take advantage of this, you must register for the class through Viana. This offer is also good for GIS students who are genuinely interested in employment in the industry.

The most beneficial classes are the Personal Lines Exam School and the Commercial Lines Exam school. After taking both, you will be ready to sit for the combined Personal and Commercial Lines test. Iowa Licenses are recognized in many states and all you will have to do is apply for licensure if you are moving to a reciprocal state. While agents must get licensed, other positions such as underwriting and claims benefit from licensure.
