Vaughan Institute Announcements
Create a new email account and join LinkedIn
When you graduate, you will lose your @uiowa.edu email account. Please create a permanent email account now using Yahoo, Gmail or some other service. Even if you're not graduating in May, it is a good idea to create an account. Your new email can be used to help us keep in touch and to help you extend your network. For example, we can use it to get you connected to the Vaughan Institute's LinkedIn group.
Once your permanent email has been established, please email Viana with the address for inclusion in our LinkedIn group.
LinkedIn is a professional networking site that helps you find past and present colleagues, discover inside connections when you are looking for a jog and get answers to important business questions. It is an important way to stay connected to the University and the Institute.

GIS DeGowin Blood Drive
by Renee Vavroch
On Wednesday, March 10 Gamma Iota Sigma worked with DeGowin Blood Center and held a blood drive at the Tippie College of Business. This event was part of a larger initiative created by the Gamma Iota Sigma Grand Chapter to challenge all of the GIS chapters to collect as many units of blood as possible across the United States.
Thanks to the generous help of many GIS members the Tippie College of Business blood drive was very successful. GIS recruited 42 donors, 21 of whom were first time donors. DeGowin collected a total 36 units of blood, each of which can be used to save up to three lives. On behalf of Gamma Iota Sigma we would like to thank all members who donated blood, recruited donors, helped set-up, and worked the snack table at the event.
Many lives were touched and this wouldn't have been possible without all of your help.

State Farm is looking for a person to fill a very unique position in their regional office in West Des Moines, IA. The person will work directly with Terry Barton, Vice President of the Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota region. Unfortunately, State Farm Headquarters doesn’t have a job description that does this position justice. It has been classified as Executive Secretary/Assistant; however, the duties are more comprehensive than described in the position announcement. Don’t let the job description influence your decision to apply for this important position.
They are looking for a person who will be expected to perform above the duties described. They want someone who can make a great contribution to the organization and will become a vital part of their group. The position will work with different levels of leadership on many and various tasks. They want someone with strong organizational and social skills and who is an "impact player" and "fearless" (their words).
This is a developmental position and previous people who have held it have been promoted to very important roles. Terry views this position as his 'chief utility officer' and hopes to develop the person into an agency field leader.
