Risk and Insurance Management Society Meeting

    • This is the final meeting for the year, and it will be their annual Christmas Party. The Greater Quad Cities Risk and Insurance Management meetings are normally held the second Wednesday of every month. Dinner is free for the first two students to register.     AEGON Meet and Greet

    The AEGON Meet and Greet Session with Risk Management and Actuarial Science Students has been rescheduled for 1:30 on Friday, February 5 in C208 PBB. Details will be sent later.

    Gamma Iota Sigma Events

    Become a Member

    Gamma Iota Sigma is constantly seeking new members. Students who are interested in becoming members in the Insurance, Risk Management, and Actuarial Science Collegiate Fraternity are encouraged to fill out an application. Applications can be obtained by emailing jonathan-raftis@uiowa.edu or viana-rockel@uiowa.edu. Applications are accepted at any point throughout the school year. Students are invited to visit the Gamma Iota Sigma website, www.biz.uiowa.edu/gis, to find out more information.

    Mr. Agnew is the outgoing CEO of Grinnell Mutual, a mutual reinsurance company that is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year. (6:00 p.m. in C121 PBB)

    Scholarships

    Spencer Education Foundation

    The Spencer Education Foundation is offering scholarships in the amount of $5,000 for the 2010-11 academic year to juniors and seniors learning risk management and insurance. A UI student won a scholarship last year. Viana will help with the application, and she will obtain the necessary signature by the Dean or Department Head. Don't hesitate. If you are interested, please contact Viana for an application form.

    Dedicated RMI Scholarships

    The Vaughan Institute has several scholarships for 2010-11 that are open only to Certificate students. Some require short essays and awards range from $750 to $2,500. If you would like to complete for these scholarships, please fill out the Tippie College of Business scholarship application in January and indicate on the application that you are a risk management student. RMI students who aren't completing a business major may also submit an application through the Tippie College online scholarship form. If you are chosen to compete for an award that requires an essay, you will be contacted as asked to write an essay.

    Insurance Scholarship Foundation of America

    • Application deadline: January 15 for March awards.
    • Complete the application form and mail it to the Insurance Scholarship Foundation.

    Motorists Mutual Accelerated Training Program for New Hires

    Motorists Mutual is taking applications for their Accelerated Training Program. The positions will be based in Columbus and they are seeking highly motivated students to participate in a phenomenal learning opportunity covering all aspects of their business.

    Liberty Mutual Summer 2010 Underwriting Internship, West Des Moines

    Liberty Mutual (a division of Indiana Insurance), is offering a 2010 summer internship in West Des Moines in commercial lines underwriting. Students will work 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and earn $13-$16.50 per hour. Don't wait to apply.
