Scholarships
Iowa Insurance and Financial Services Education Foundation Scholarship Due November 2The Iowa Insurance and Financial Services Education Foundation is offering two $2,500 scholarships for academic year 2010-11 to full time undergraduate students completing the Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) Certificate. The awards are renewable and available to US students and permanent residents. Students graduating May 2011 and later are encouraged to apply. Students interested in an internship with IIFSEF member companies during summer 2010 will be given preference.
Principal Financial Diversity Scholarship Due November 1Are you an outstanding college student who could use a $5,000 academic scholarship and a potential internship? You need to act quickly - the application deadline is November 1.

Mentoring Application Deadline Extended to October 27
Because of midterms this week, the Mentoring Program Application deadline has been extended a second time. Applications are now due October 27 (not Oct. 14). Interviews will also be rescheduled to a later date. Don't miss your opportunity to interact with an industry mentor this year. If you would like to discuss the program before you complete your application, please contact Viana Rockel. Mentors will be chosen based on student applications and interviews. This is an important opportunity to develop your professional skills with a mentor and expand your network.

Risk and Insurance Management Society Meeting
Students are invited to attend the Greater Quad Cities Risk and Insurance Management meeting normally held the second Wednesday of every month. Dinner is free for the first two students to register. November's topic is Work Comp Experience Mod Forecasting, presented by Holmes Murphy and Associates. After November 1, check their website for details on the location. Contact Stephanie Romagnoli
Registered Professional Liability Underwriter Waivers
Need a resume builder? Students completing the RMI certificate may qualify for waivers for two to three modules of the Registered Professional Liability Underwriters designation from the Professional Liability Underwriting Society. If you think you might like to become an underwriter, you're encouraged to contact the society and begin the process for certification now. The RMI Certificate may provide enough background for you to test out of two C-02-CGL Commercial General Liability Education Modules and a Finance or Accounting Degree may qualify you to test out of the C-04-FIN Financial Analysis Module.

I-Day is proclaimed each year to recognize persons who have completed Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation. This is a good chance to get to know many professionals working in the field. The topic this year is Legislation and speakers include: someone from the Governor's office, Senator Rich Olive, Chief Justice Marsha Ternus, IIAI CEO Bob Skow, and NAMIC CEO Chuck Chamness. Cost is $60 for Seminar and luncheon, or $38 for just the seminar. Register today by contacting Viana for a registration form or by emailing russ.e.greenwood@emcins.com. If there is enough interest in this event, we can make it an official University trip for up to five RMI students and Viana will drive.
