Gerard Hoberg

Jerry Hoberg will be the keynote speaker. Jerry earned his Ph.D. from Yale and is a Professor of Finance at the University of Southern California. He is an associate editor for Review of Financial Services and Journal of Financial Services Research and has published extensively in top journals, including Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Political Economy, Management Science, and others. Among other topics, Jerry will be discussing applications of his textual network industry data, which is widely used in accounting and finance.

Patrick Fan

The second speaker for this year’s lecture series is Patrick Fan, Henry B. Tippie Chair in Business Analytics. Patrick joined the Tippie College of Business in 2018 and has extensive research experience with textual analysis and machine learning. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and has over 90 peer-reviewed publications, including articles in accounting journals. Patrick will be discussing applications of these data methods in research settings.
