Add a course

Use MyUI to add courses after registration opens until midnight of the first day of your course. On or after the first day of the course, contact the PMBA Registration Office at or 319-335-3739 to add a course.

Drop a course

Up until the first day of the course, you can drop through MyUI. You must drop the course before 11:59 p.m. the day before the course starts. Dropping after this point requires you to email with the course name and reason for the drop.

Tuition responsibility for dropped courses

You’ll be held to at least 10% tuition responsibility for any course in which you are officially enrolled unless your drop is received before 11:59 p.m. the day before the official course start date listed in the PMBA Schedule of Courses. Please note, mixed-mode courses typically have an official course start date several weeks prior to the in-person class sessions.  After that point, the amount of tuition you're responsible for varies depending on when you drop. Details are explained in the Tuition Responsibility Schedule.

Not attending class does not constitute withdrawal. Failure to provide official notice of withdrawal may result in receiving a grade of F in the course. This tuition responsibility schedule is specific to this program, and is distinct from the university’s Tuition Responsibility Schedule.

Course material responsibility for dropped courses

If you drop before 11:59 p.m. the day before the course starts, you will not be responsible for course materials. If you withdraw after that point, you will be held to the full cost of any required course materials typically charged to your U-Bill (cases, simulations, course packets).

Enrollment restrictions

If you want to enroll in more than two concurrent courses in a semester, you should discuss this decision with your advisor. You cannot take two courses that meet on the same day/night. This includes courses where only one of the days or nights overlap.

You may take up to three courses (9 semester hours) in summer session, with no more than two concurrent courses.

Fall and spring

You may enroll in two concurrent non-intersession courses. You may enroll in three non-intersession courses concurrently if you:

  • Are a fully admitted student
  • Have completed at least six hours in the program
  • Have received grades of B or better and GPA of 3.5+ in all MBA coursework
  • Are not enrolling in Business Integration for the semester in question

Maximum intersession enrollment is one course (3 semester hours) per semester.

Maximum winter term enrollment is one course (3 semester hours).

PreMBA enrollment restrictions

As a student in PreMBA status, you can enroll in up to five courses (15 semester hours). Credits must be no more than 10 years old to be counted toward fulfillment of the degree.

The five courses must include one of the following:

  • MBA:8160 Managerial Economics
  • MBA:8140 Corporate Financial Reporting
  • MBA:8150 Business Analytics
  • MBA:8180 Managerial Finance

Course prerequisites

If you want to enroll in a course with a prerequisite, you need to have completed the prerequisite or been waived from it before the course begins.

Full-time/half-time student status

Some financial aid methods are dependent on your status as a full-time or half-time student. Here's how this applies to PMBA:

Full-time status

Defined for graduate students as 9 s.h. per semester during the academic year or 5 s.h. during summer session.

Half-time status

Defined for graduate students as 5 s.h. per semester during the academic year or 3 s.h. during summer session.

Enrollment in Full-time MBA courses

You may complete up to 15 credit hours of Full-time MBA Program coursework at the Iowa City campus. MBA courses are offered in Iowa City during the fall and spring semesters.

Students interested in taking courses on the main campus should contact their academic advisor and must meet on-campus registration requirements (e.g., vaccinations). Tuition rates for on-campus, full-time courses are different than tuition rates for Professional MBA courses.

Full-time MBA students have registration priority and PMBA students can enroll as space allows.
