English Language Discussion Circles (ELDC)

The ELDC's daily discussion circles serve as an open forum to improve language and conversation skills, build relationships, and learn about different cultures.

At the ELDC, we believe that the best part of being a Hawkeye is the great community that we create by investing in and learning from one another. One of the best ways to achieve this investment and learning is through open dialogue and by sharing our experiences with one another. Each day has a new topic or activity that allows us to create this sense of community:

  • Monday: Discuss our weekly topic
  • Tuesday: Games and activities days
  • Wednesday: Discuss current events
  • Thursday: Popular culture/special topic discussion
  • Friday: Open discussion day/special topic discussion

No advanced preparation, registration, or reservation is required - just show up as often as your schedule allows. We look forward to chatting with you and getting to know you better!

London Calling! Winter Session Information

Imagine studying in London during winter session.   Students may apply for either Sports Economics or International Finance (3 s.h.).  To learn more about this popular study abroad option taught by Tippie College faculty, attend an information session.  Application Deadline: September 9.

Pre-Business Welcome Extravaganza

First-year Pre-Business students are invited to meet informally with Tippie faculty, staff, and students to learn about resources and upcoming events that will help them get involved and gain admission to Tippie. London Calling! Winter Session Information

Develop a greater understanding of business in a global setting - take a course in London during winter session.  Students may apply for either Sports Economics or International Finance (3 s.h.).  The course is taught by Tippie College faculty.  Visits to companies and organizations, guest speakers, and cultural and historic visits complement classroom learning.  Application Deadline: September 9.

"Get Scrappy" Book Reading with Nick Westergaard

Tippie College of Business’s Nick Westergaard will talk about his dynamic new book, Get Scrappy, which shatters the myth that only big brands can do big things. This essential guide to the current marketing environment addresses today’s ever-changing array of platforms, features, and networks – and explains how to help your business reach people effectively and efficiently.

Nick Westergaard is a contributor to the Harvard Business Review and host of the popular On Brand podcast. He teaches and is on the Advisory Council of the Marketing Institute at the Tippie College of Business. He is the organizer and host of the Social Brand Forum and a mentor at the Iowa Startup Accelerator.
