The Tippie College of Business will recognize several outstanding alumni at an event to be held at the W Hotel - City Center, located at 172 West Adams Street in Chicago on Thursday, February 23. The event will be part of a luncheon for University of Iowa business alumni in the Chicago area. Honorees include Christopher J. Hoffman, Senior Partner for PricewaterhouseCooopers and Claudia Marban, president and founder of Ameriprise franchise Claudia Marban and Associates.

Tippie Dean Sarah Gardial established the college’s Alum of the Year and Young Alum of the Year awards when she wanted to recognize alumni that are heavily involved in the life of the college. “We have many alumni who are very engaged whether it be through their service on advisory boards, their assistance in our recruiting efforts, or their support for our programs. This award provides an opportunity for us to thank them for their exemplary service.”

Accounting alumnus Christopher J. Hoffman will receive the Alum of the Year Award in recognition of his service on the college’s Professional Accounting Council and Tippie Advisory Board. What truly made Hoffman stand out was his leadership in establishing support for the Department of Accounting’s PhD Research Fellowships. Hoffman and his fellow PwC partners recognize that for their firm to recruit the best accounting talent that they need to be taught by the best accounting faculty. By supporting PhD research, they are helping cultivate the next generation of accounting faculty. Hoffman has been an advocate for recruiting at Iowa and has provided support for the college’s Gateway Program, which recruits diverse undergrads to Iowa and to the study of business.

In this role, he serves as the lead partner on some of the firm’s key university clients, such as University of Chicago, University of Michigan, Notre Dame and Northwestern University. When Marban was turning 30, she decided to make a large gift to the Tippie College in recognition of the education she received as a student. One of her transformational collegiate experiences was when she traveled abroad and Marban will enable other students to have a similar experience through the study abroad scholarship she established. In addition, Marban has served on both the Tippie Advisory Board and the University of Iowa Alumni Association Board. She has served as a panelist for Women in Business and was a featured speaker at the Tippie College’s Scholarship Luncheon.
