The Professional MBA Program at the Tippie College of Business has moved up 16 places to #22 in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report rankings of graduate schools released today. This ranking is the highest on record for the program since the ranking began in 1994.

“The value and reputation of an Iowa MBA continues to grow,” declared Sarah Fisher Gardial, dean of the Tippie College of Business. “We have listened to the working professionals in the state – they want educational opportunities that allow them to keep working while earning a degree. Our Professional MBA Program provides key training in a flexible format that enables our graduates to move ahead in their careers.”

Enrollment at the Professional MBA Program is currently at an all-time high with 950 students, up from 830 in spring 2017. The program is offered in Cedar Rapids, the Quad Cities, and Des Moines. Classes are predominantly in the evenings with some weekend or special intersession formats. There are a growing number of online classes.

According to the Graduate Management Admission Council more than half of part-time self-paced MBA programs reported declining applications in 2017. Despite the national trend, Iowa’s Professional MBA has experienced steady growth over recent years, while introducing new graduate certificates, increasing entry points for enrollment, and expanding joint-degree options.

This year’s ranking more heavily weighs undergraduate GPA of those entering the program. Average months of work experience for enrolled students went up from 77 months to 100 months, reflecting growing interest from mid-career professionals with 8+ years of work experience.

Highlights of the rankings will be published in the America’s Best Graduate Schools 2019 guidebook. A paid subscription is required to access all of the data.
