Once a Hawkeye, always a Hawkeye. With matching funds from UI accounting alumni, the RSM US Foundation made a total gift of $157,100 to the University of Iowa Department of Accounting in April 2018.

“This gift is made possible through the generous contributions from RSM colleagues who are University of Iowa alumni, as well as the RSM US Foundation,” said Joe McCarragher (BBA99), a partner with RSM US LLP and a member of the Professional Accounting Council who championed the collective gift. “I am honored to be a part of establishing the RSM Fund of Excellence, and grateful to RSM’s support, as we strive to continue to enhance educational outcomes for today’s students, and tomorrow’s business leaders.”

Dean Price (BBA69), a partner at RSM US LLP, was instrumental in establishing the fund, and Marty Tunning (BBA84), partner-in-charge of the Iowa City RSM US LLP office, was active in soliciting support from other RSM partners.

The donation allows the accounting department to pursue a variety of initiatives including graduating strong accounting communicators through the accounting writing program, paying for databases used in class, hosting prominent speakers from the industry, and recruiting students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds, said Dan Collins, accounting’s department executive officer.

“This generous gift from RSM is critical to our department’s ability to deliver outstanding educational experiences for accounting majors."
