With data science and analytics jobs projected to grow at an explosive rate across the United States, the Tippie College of Business has long been taking steps to position itself as a top-5 program in business analytics and information systems. This Friday, the college will convene the first meeting of the Tippie Analytics Cooperative Advisory Council.

“Our external partnerships are increasingly central to the academic mission of the college,” says Nick Street, professor and executive officer of the Tippie Department of Management Sciences. “The Tippie Analytics Cooperative provides a front door for our programs to the world, coordinating projects that provide valuable real-world experience to the students as well as value for the clients. Through the new Tippie Analytics Cooperative Advisory Council we are better able to share research advances and best practices -- in both directions.”

Composed of representatives of 14 businesses, the advisory council will provide a critical piece of insight into the fast-changing corporate environment of data science. Corporate partners represented on the advisory council include:

  • Principal
  • State Farm
  • Unity Point
  • Transamerica
  • Cargill
  • College Raptor
  • ACT
  • Rockwell Collins
  • PricewaterhouseCoopers
  • Pella
  • Kum & Go
  • Interstate Control Systems, Inc.
  • Ruffalo Noel Levitz
  • Dell Global Services

Collaborations between industry partners and Tippie Analytics Cooperative have been well established for years.

This year, the college announced that it is building business analytics into the core of the college’s undergraduate business curriculum, and is pursuing expanding its graduate offerings to include a master’s program in business analytics on its Iowa City campus. Currently, the college offers a certificate program in business analytics as well as a part-time master’s program on campuses in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and the Quad Cities.
