Career outcomes and job placements for Tippie College of Business Class of 2016
Thursday, May 11, 2017

Here at the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business, we are celebrating the graduation of several hundred undergraduate students during this Saturday’s commencement ceremony at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. As we prepare to say good-bye to our graduating seniors, we’re excited about the beginning of a new chapter for each of them.

In addition to being graduation season, this is also the time of year when we finalize and share career outcome information from past graduates. An outstanding 97.2% of Tippie undergrads from the Class of 2016 and December 2015 were employed or furthering their education within six months of graduation, a 1.7% increase over the previous year.

Graduates from all six of Tippie’s majors reported similar outcomes: Accounting came in at 99%, Business Analytics and Information Systems at 98%, Economics at 97%, Finance at 96%, Management and Marketing both came in at 98%.

Starting Salaries

Among those who reported full-time employment, the median salary was $49,000.

Salaries varied by major, and as in past years, the more quantitative majors led the pack. The highest reported salary was from a Finance major at $99,840, but Accounting grads reported the highest median salary at $55,500. Close behind were graduates from Tippie’s newest major, Business Analytics and Information Systems, pulling in a median salary of $55,250.

While the vast majority of undergraduate Tippie grads opted to seek employment, an increasing percentage (11.6%) reported continuing their education. The most popular options were master’s programs in accounting and finance.

The data was collected by the University of Iowa’s Pomerantz Career Center and are based on a response rate of 78.9%, representing 663 graduates from fall 2015, spring 2016, and summer 2016 semesters.
