Welcome to another Diversity Committee email highlighting our theme month. March is Women’s History Month, and there are numerous events, including the Tippie Monday Memoir (already past) where Yasmina Cassab Mejia and Natalia Gil Lallana from the International Women’s Club of Iowa City spoke about their inspiring life and work experiences.

Women’s History Month Select Events for the Tippie Community

Tippie Women’s Summit

Various events and times, March 4, 11, 18, 24, and 31. The Tippie Women Summit has shifted to a virtual format with a series of program.  All programs are free and open to the public. UIowa Women’s Leadership Initiative Event

“Owning Your Leadership” March 5 at 11:30 AM presented by Dr. Michele Williams, assistant professor of management and entrepreneurship, Miclot Fellow in Entrepreneurship, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Faculty Fellow in the Tippie College of Business. Space is limited. After 120 registrations, individuals will be placed on a wait list.

Women in Business (WIB) March Fundraiser

Tippie’s WIB is hosting a fundraiser the week of March 7 to thank the women who have played a role in each of their member’s lives; women who encouraged them to dream big and then guided them in their journey. Donations can be mailed to the IWF office or made online: iawf.org/donate-now (noting “WIB Fundraiser”).

University of Iowa WRAC Women’s History Month

Offering month-long stories commemorating a small group of notable women associated with the University of Iowa including Mildred Benson, Rusty Barcelό, Marilyn Robinson, Joy Harjo, Elizabeth Catlett, Jean Jew, and Christine Grant. National Women’s History Month

The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in commemorating and encouraging the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in US history. womenshistorymonth.gov.

Celebration of Excellence and Achievement Among Women

Finally, the annual celebration of the many outstanding contributions of women at the University of Iowa will be held virtually on Wednesday, April 7. This year’s award winners are being selected now and more information will be released shortly: celebrationofexcellence.sites.uiowa.edu.
