In the world of business, you need more than the basic skills to be successful. You need to be able to communicate well—both on paper and in person. Our recruiters tell us that communications skills are critical in today's workplace. Because of this, the Tippie College has developed the Judith R. Frank Business Communications Center, which is devoted to ensuring that Tippie students graduate with the communication skills necessary to have an impact in their workplace.
The Frank Business Communications Center serves more than 800 students each semester. Our trained staff consists of both graduates and peers. We mentor each student individually, using their assignments as guidelines for critique and review. Our tutors are trained to handle both general business writing and specific assignments.
We work closely with professors and teaching assistants in the writing-intensive courses with which we directly consult. We study the assignments, work to develop handouts based on the particular assignment, and give targeted presentations to the classes.
The end result: a student that can enter the workforce with the communication skills to be a leader in his/her industry. It's just one of the ways that our innovative programming has an impact on our graduates.
