MBA Scholarship Awards

Financial awards available for strong candidates

Tippie's MBA scholarship programs help to make your goal a reality. Supported by the university and benefactors, we offer partial-tuition and full-tuition awards.

How we award

We allocate using the same criteria as admission: professional achievement, test scores, undergraduate academics, and results from the admissions interview. Financial details are explained on our merit-based aid page.

Joint degree candidates are eligible for the Elite Scholar award only. Awards for joint degrees will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

How to apply

To be considered for one of these awards, MBA candidates first complete our online application. All admitted candidates are automatically considered for awards in most categories. For Service and Returning Iowan awards, please submitting a "Scholarship Eligibility Statement" here.

Tippie Elite MBA Scholar Award

This award is set aside for high-quality candidates to the Tippie Full-time MBA program, determined based on professional achievement, standardized test scores, undergraduate academics, and results from the admissions interview.

Value: Full Tuition and Partial tuition (Full-time MBA)

Eligibility: Candidates must be admitted to the Full-time MBA Program.

Tippie MBA Women's Award

Companies with women on their board of directors make more money, are smarter investors, and give more to philanthropy[1]. A gender-diverse business world is a boon to the entire economy, and to that end, we offer full-tuition financial awards to female candidates who demonstrate leadership potential.

Value: Full tuition (Full-time MBA)

Eligibility: Female candidates admitted to the Full-time MBA Program with outstanding leadership potential.

AmeriCorps Service Distinction Award

The mission of AmeriCorps—and the organizations under its umbrella, including Teach for America and City Year—pairs well with the Tippie MBA's purpose of creating future business leaders. AmeriCorps alumni are professional, hard-working, and altruistic—a natural fit with the Tippie MBA community.

Value: Full tuition (Full-time MBA), in addition to any Segal AmeriCorps Education Award benefits

Eligibility: Successful completion of a term of service in accordance with your AmeriCorps member contract with one of the following AmeriCorps programs: AmeriCorps State and National (including but not limited to Teach for America and City Year), AmeriCorps VISTA, and AmeriCorps NCCC. To be considered for this award when you apply, please submit a brief "Scholarship Eligibility Statement" here.

U.S. Armed Forces Award

Military veterans with MBAs bring valuable skills to the classroom and to their post-MBA employer: leadership, reliability, productivity, and an understanding of diverse teams. We are dedicated to supporting veterans and active duty members of the U.S. military through financial awards that augment Post-9/11 GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program benefits.

Details: The University of Iowa participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program, meaning veterans pursuing degrees and paying out-of-state tuition can qualify for additional support if they are eligible for the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill.

Value: The Tippie MBA awards approximately $17,000 in the form of a Graduate Assistantship (paid to you directly through a monthly salary) and a scholarship. For those receiving full tuition payment through the G.I. Bill, scholarships in varying amounts are available that will pay out in addition to G.I. Bill benefits. For those paying out-of-state tuition, the University of Iowa offers up to $2,500 per student per year as part of the Yellow Ribbon Program (Veteran's Administration match provides an additional $2,500).

Eligibility: Veterans or active-duty U.S. military who are also eligible for Post-9/11 G.I. Bill benefits. To be considered for this award, please indicate your military status on the application.

Returning Iowan Award

Iowa is a place that's easy to come home to. We're excited to have native Iowans returning for an MBA from the only top-ranked Full-time MBA in the state.

Value: Full tuition (Full-time MBA)

Eligibility: Candidates must have graduated from an Iowa high school and be living and working outside the state of Iowa at the time they apply.

University of Iowa Alumnus Award

Getting two degrees from the same school is smart when your alma mater has one of the country's best MBA programs. No matter your undergrad major, we offer financial awards that make your Iowa MBA just as smart an investment as your Iowa Bachelor's degree.

Value: Full tuition (Full-time MBA)

Eligibility: Candidates must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree from the University of Iowa.

Tippie Emerging Markets Award

MBAs from emerging economies carry a unique point of view into the classroom that enriches discussion and educates others about the challenges of doing business in an ever-changing market. Because exchange rates can make study in the U.S. challenging, we're dedicated to supporting these MBA candidates with financial awards.

Value: Full tuition (Full-time MBA)
