In order to receive your diploma and have your degree officially conferred, you must complete the Application for Degree:
You must apply by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19.
The MBA December Graduation Celebration is not open to the public. Seats are reserved and tickets are required for the event. Graduates will not wear caps and gowns for the December Celebration. Professional attire is expected.
As always, December graduates are welcome to also participate in the formal Commencement Ceremony held on May 15, 2015. No tickets or special seating arrangements are required for this event. Caps and gowns are mandatory attire for graduates who participate in the May ceremony.
Graduates who are interested in purchasing traditional announcements may contact the Alumni Association between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on weekdays at 319-335-3294. Personalized announcements can be specifically designed with The University of Iowa school crest and personalized with your name, degree, major, time, date, and place of your ceremony. For personalized announcements go to herffjones.com. Be sure to request "School of Management" announcements specifically.
Graduates and their guests are invited to arrive at the Coral Ballroom beginning at 4:30 p.m. to check in and enjoy a reception before dinner. At check-in, graduates will receive a nametag and dinner tickets. At 5:00 p.m. graduates will be assisted in lining up alphabetically in the hallway, in preparation for the processional into the ballroom promptly at 5:15.
The Tippie MBA Graduation Celebration is a combined program and sit-down dinner event. At the beginning of the Celebration, graduates are seated together near the stage to hear the commencement speakers and to be introduced, walk across the stage, shake hands with the Dean, and receive their diplomas. Guests are seated at round dinner tables during the program, and graduates join their families and guests for dinner following the program. While most graduates and their guests participate in the entire program and dinner event, you may choose to attend the program only. Guests who will not be staying for the entire event are seated in rows at the back of the banquet room during the graduation program.
Dinner is complimentary for the graduate and one adult guest. Additional guests may attend at a cost of $31 per person for adults, and $12 for children under 12 years of age.
The ceremony will begin with a welcome from Associate Dean David Frasier, followed by the Keynote Address and the Presentation of the Graduates. Once the ceremony is completed, graduates will be dismissed to sit with their guests. Dinner will then be served.
Diplomas, with covers, will be distributed during the Celebration to graduates who have met all degree requirements. For those unable to attend, diplomas will be mailed after final grades have been recorded—approximately two weeks after the event. They will be mailed to the address you indicated as your "diploma mailing address" on your application to graduate.
Students who have incomplete course work or who have not met other requirements for the degree will not receive their diploma until the deficient course work has been completed. The final academic, or credentialing, document (i.e. official transcript), will not be released if there is a financial indebtedness to The University of Iowa.
