Whiteman Selected for Role as Tippie Senior Associate Dean
Whiteman came to the Iowa faculty in 1980. In addition to his role as a professor and as director of the Economic Research Institute, he has served as the Department Executive Officer for the Tippie College's Department of Economics and member of the State of Iowa Council of Economic Advisors.
He is a member of the American Economic Association, the American Statistical Association, the Econometric Society, and the International Society for Bayesian Analysis. He has served as associate editor of Econometrica, the Journal of Econometrics, Macroeconomic Dynamics, and the Economics Bulletin.
"Chuck Whiteman has a long-standing record of service to the Tippie College and is a highly respected researcher and faculty member," states Gary Fethke, current dean of the Tippie College. "He has been at the forefront of utilizing technology in the classroom and I am fully-confident that he will excel in this new position."
Whiteman's work with students has been recognized several times including the 2004 Graduate College Outstanding Mentor Award and the Executive MBA G.R.E.A.T. Instructor of the Year Award in 2005. In addition, he has received the Professional Excellence in the Training of Economists (PETE) Award from the graduate students in the Economics Department in 2002.
He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota and a BA in Economics from the University of Kansas. His research areas and expertise are in the areas of dynamic macroeconomic theory and financial economics, rational expectations, and Bayesian econometrics. As a researcher, he has received multi-year grants from the National Science Foundation. He has published two books in addition to numerous articles in professional journals.
According to incoming Dean William C. (Curt) Hunter, "It will be beneficial for the Tippie College of Business to have someone with Chuck Whiteman's experience and perspective in this role. The Tippie College has enjoyed great leadership from Gary Fethke and Bob Forsythe. Chuck and I will do all we can to continue this tradition of quality and excellence."
A replacement for Whiteman as director of the Economic Research Institute will be forthcoming. The University of Iowa's Henry B. Tippie College of Business offers undergraduate and graduate programs that consistently rank it among the top 30 public business schools in the nation. In addition to the nationally-ranked MBA Program, students can receive degrees in accounting, economics, finance, management and organizations, management sciences, and marketing.
