Noted Professor of Business and Psychology To Visit UI September 12-15

Terence R. Mitchell, the Edward Carlson Professor of Business Administration and professor of psychology at the University of Washington, will visit the University of Iowa Sept. 12-15 as an Ida Cordelia Beam Distinguished Visiting Professor.

His public lecture, "Leadership and Motivation in Ordinary and Extra-Ordinary Times," will be held Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. in Macbride Auditorium in Macbride Hall.

In addition, he will present a lecture on "Goal-setting and Motivation" on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 10:55 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. in W107 Pappajohn Business Building, and again from 1:05 to 2:20 p.m. in 112 Macbride Hall.

He is also scheduled to conduct a seminar from 12:10 to 1:30 p.m. in C250 Pappajohn Business Building on "Using Qualitative Methods in Psychological and Management Research."

All sessions are free and open to the public.

Mitchell has published extensively in the areas of decision-making, leadership, motivation, cognition, attitudes and behaviors. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Association, and the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology and an Erskine Fellow at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. He is the winner of several best paper awards and was twice selected as Scholar of the Year by the University of Washington Business School during the past five years.

His visit is sponsored by the UI's Department of Management and Organizations in the Tippie College of Business, the Department of Psychology and Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the UI Honors Program, with additional support from the Ida Cordelia Beam Distinguished Visiting Professorship Program.

The UI established the Ida Cordelia Beam Distinguished Visiting Professorships Program in 1978-79 based on a bequest from the late Ida Beam of Vinton, Iowa, who willed her family farm to the UI Foundation. The proceeds from the farm's sale enabled the UI to establish a fund that brings top scholars in a variety of fields to the university for lectures and discussions.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. Persons with disabilities who require an accommodation in order to participate should contact in advance Marlene Grout, Department of Management & Organizations, at marlene-grout@uiowa.edu or Ruth Kenton-Sieck, Office of the Provost, at ruth-kenton-sieck@uiowa.edu.
