Buchanan to Discuss Entrepreneurship in UI Lecture

John Buchanan, a 1956 University of Iowa graduate and founder of insurance consulting firm Riepe, Buchanan, & Piper, will discuss entrepreneurialism when he speaks at the Tippie College of Business at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10.

Buchanan's lecture, part of the Sandage Lecture Series, will be held in the Bedell Entrepreneurship Learning Laboratory (BELL), 320 N. Clinton St. Admission is free and open to the public.

Buchanan's firm eventually merged with Marsh & McLennan Companies, a Fortune 100 company and the world's leading insurance broker and consulting services firm. Buchanan's company specialized in offering small and medium-sized companies the opportunity to purchase benefit and pension plans designed for very large companies.

In 1989, John was one of 20 United States entrepreneurs to be selected to participate in the Price-Babson Fellows Program at Babson College. Following the program, Buchanan started teaching entrepreneurialism at the Tippie College of Business, a position he recently retired from, although he continues to mentor students in the process of starting their own businesses
