Dustin Named Outstanding Teaching Assistant

The University of Iowa has named 30 teaching assistants the winners of the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards for 2008-09. Winners receive a certificate of achievement and $1,000. They were honored at an award reception on Thursday, May 7. Susan Dustin, a teaching assistant in the Department of Management and Organizations, was among the honorees.

Jill Beckman, chair of the Council on Teaching, thanked the award-winning teaching assistants for their dedication to undergraduate teaching and for their service to the University.

"Selecting these outstanding TAs is one of our most important and rewarding responsibilities as a council," Beckman said. "Their dedication to excellent teaching translates directly into positive learning experiences for the undergraduates with whom they interact. They play a crucial role in the fulfillment of the University's academic mission, and it's a pleasure to recognize them for doing that work with such commitment and enthusiasm."

The Council on Teaching has presented the awards each year since 1988. The awardees are teaching assistants who taught for at least one semester during the spring, summer, or fall of 2008. Nominations for the awards are sought from students, faculty, colleagues, departmental officers, and deans.
