Two Tippie Students Named to ESPN's 2010 Academic All-District Football Team
University of Iowa linebackers Jeff Tarpinian and Tyler Nielsen have been named to ESPN's 2010 Academic All-District Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Tarpinian is a senior accounting major from Omaha, Neb., and boasts a 3.58 GPA. Nielsen, of Humboldt, Iowa, is a junior management major with a GPA of 3.56.
UI offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde was also named to the Academic All-District football team. Vandervelde is a senior majoring in English and religious studies. Integrative physiology major and sophomore Jade Grimm, a midfielder on the UI women's soccer team, was named to first team of the 2010 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team.
To be considered for the ESPN Academic All-America or All-District team, a student-athlete must carry a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.30, be a starting or key reserve player, and be of sophomore academic status.
