Registration Continues for Entrepreneurship Camps

Looking for a unique yet educational camp for your child this summer? Consider the entrepreneurship camps at the University of Iowa where Eastern Iowa kids can learn entrepreneurial skills that last a lifetime.

Sponsored by the Jacobson Institute for Youth Entrepreneurship at The University of Iowa, these week-long camps shows students entering grades 5-9 what it's like to start a business through classroom and practical experience. Now in its 16th year, the entrepreneurship camps have given hundreds of children valuable skills in business.

The following camps are being offered this summer:

Youth Entrepreneur Camp for students entering grades 5th & 6th in the fall:

  • June 25-29—Cedar Rapids (NEW in 2011)
  • July 9-13—Iowa City (only a few spaces remain!)

  • July 16-20—Iowa City (FULL—apply this year to get priority registration next year!)
  • July 23-27—Des Moines (only a few spaces remain!)

Camps run daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. During the camp, students learn how to make money doing what they love!

  • Turn a hobby into a business
  • Create business cards
  • Design a business flyer
  • Market a product
  • Make new friends
  • Have fun!

"This camp helps kids take a kernel of an idea and start to develop it into a business plan. Presentations from successful entrepreneurs help them see the potential of their ideas," said Jacobson Institute director Dawn Bowlus. "Developing entrepreneurial skills is something that will be beneficial to them throughout their entire lives, whatever their career path may be."

The user-friendly course materials developed by the Jacobson Institute for Youth Entrepreneurship at the University of Iowa are designed specifically for youth, and include activities to stimulate interest in the various aspects of entrepreneurship.
