Childrens Hospital Patients Benefit from Tons of Toys Drive

Frosty Delivering Toys The University of Iowa chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) collected more than 300 toys as part their Tons of Toys drive, benefiting young patients of the Children's Hospital of Iowa who are affected by disorders such as cancer.

Distributing toys gathered during the drive, Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and Frosty the Snowman brought smiles to a group of children Wednesday at the Patient Library in the John Colloton Pavilion at the UI Hospitals and Clinics. Gary Fethke, dean of the Henry B. Tippie College of Business, joined the marketing students and parents for the distribution. Toys will also be given to several other pediatric patients next week.

On Dec. 2, the AMA chapter from the Henry B. Tippie College of Business began the drive that runs through Friday, Dec. 20.

Collection boxes were placed outside the Dean's Office and in the department of marketing in the Pappajohn Business Building. Toys were collected not only from faculty, staff and students in the Tippie College of Business, but from the campus community as well.

"So many people have supported this project, and it has grown virally across campus," said Dave Collins, UI marketing instructor and AMA advisor.

"It's a great way to give back to the community," added AMA chapter president John Thompson.

Financial contributions may also be made in care of the AMA and online at www.iowaama.org/tonsoftoys.asp. For more information, contact the department of marketing at (319) 335-1013.
