Applying for GLO

The online GLO application takes about 10–15 minutes; links to applications for both trips are at the top of this page. You’ll need the following to upload as a Word document, jpeg, or PDF:

  • A legible and clear scan/photo of your passport information page*
  • A headshot for use in a student directory (PMBA students only)

If you do not yet have a passport, it is still possible to register, but please apply immediately. (Passport application details here for U.S. citizens.)

Application deadlines

PMBA priority deadlines will be August 1 for January GLOs and December 1 for May GLOs. The applications will be available on this page approximately 6-8 weeks prior to the priority deadline. Notification by email will be sent when the application opens.

NOTE: As of October 1, there are a handful of seats available for both January 2019 GLO locations. Registration at this point is first come first serve and dependent on hotel availability.

2019 GLO prioritization

The program has limited seats, so apply as soon as possible. If more students apply than we have room for, we’ll prioritize based on when you submitted your application and this hierarchy:

Professional MBA students

  1. Admitted students who have not completed a GLO previously
  2. Admitted students repeating the experience
  3. PreMBA students

Full-time MBA students

  1. Second-year students who have not completed a GLO previously
  2. Students repeating the experience

Reserved seats

After the priority application deadline has passed, any remaining seats will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis.

On-campus class session

The required GLO class session for the January 2019 GLOs will be held in Iowa City prior to the trip from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2018.

The required GLO class session for the May 2019 GLO will be held in Iowa City from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2019.

Your enrollment will be added by program staff after the withdrawal deadline has passed.

Students admitted before Summer 2017: you may substitute GLO for the strategy core course requirement since this was the policy upon your program entry. Recommendation: If you did not complete Global Business Strategy and plan to take a GLO, we strongly reocmmend you take Foundation in Strategy and use the GLO as an elective.  The strategy tools you will learn and the skills you will devleop are critical as you progress in your career. The same content is not covered in the GLOs.

  • For students admitted in Summer 2017 or later: two GLOs may be completed for elective credit.

If completing more than one GLO, they should be to a different regions—Northern Europe may be considered separate from Central and Southern Europe, but please contact GLO staff to confirm.

There are three costs associated with GLO:

  • Program fees
  • Airfare
  • Tuition

These costs are different for Full-time MBA and Professional MBA students, because Full-time MBA students are required to have a GLO experience; therefore, the program fee is already included in their tuition and fees.

What does the Program fee include?

The program fee includes hotel accommodations (double occupancy), professional visits and speakers, classroom space, group airport/hotel transfers in country (available in prescribed time window), transportation between cities included in the program, bilingual group tour manager, orientation upon arrival, transportation to all professional visits, scheduled excursions and cultural activities, some meals (including all breakfasts and welcome/farewell meals), supplemental health insurance, and assistance for international travel.

Full-time MBA students

Your GLO program fee is included in the tuition and fees you already pay. Note that this applies only to your first GLO experience; if you repeat GLO, you’ll need to pay the program fee.

  • Program fee: $3,200—No additional cost to you, included in your tuition/fees
  • Airfare: approximately $1500-2000
  • Tuition: included in FTMBA tuition cost

Professional MBA students

Because GLO is an optional experience for PMBA students, the tuition you pay does not include extra charges for GLO, so the program fee, tuition, and flight costs are the responsibility of the student.

  • Program fee: $1700 for January 2019 GLOs to South Africa or to Vietnam/Singapore; $1500 for the May 2019 GLO to Germany/Czech Republic
  • Airfare: approximately $1500-2000
  • Tuition: $1,995
