The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC) within the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa invites applications for one Clinical-Track (non-tenure) Faculty Position in Management and Entrepreneurship at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, preferably starting January 2024 or no later than July 2024. Rank will be based on experience and record of achievement. Position is a 12-month fiscal year appointment at 100% time with benefits initially for 3 years with ability to renew. Reporting to the Dean of the Tippie College of Business, the Executive Director of the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (Iowa JPEC) is responsible for leading a portfolio of campus-wide and community-based entrepreneurial development programs, including oversight of the University’s Small Business Development Center, the Jacobson Institute for Youth Entrepreneurship and a collaboration with the collegiate Institute for International Business. This role will lead efforts to expand the reputation and impact of Iowa JPEC through growing and supporting an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem at the University of Iowa and throughout the state of Iowa. JPEC’s goal is to accelerate the development of innovative solutions to address societal challenges around the world.  



Description 



Job duties include: 




  • Serving as Executive Director of Iowa JPEC, which entails leading the efforts to serve as the university’s hub for entrepreneurship training, acceleration, and support including community entrepreneurship outreach programs. 

  • Direct student co-curricular programming activities designed to further develop students’ entrepreneurial mindset and professional skills, successfully launch new entrepreneurial ventures, and connect students to internship and full-time employment opportunities with entrepreneurial ventures and innovative organizations. The opportunity for limited teaching of entrepreneurship classes is also available.  

  • Develop partnerships with regional, state, national, and international entrepreneurship and economic develop organizations to identify opportunities for collaboration, serve on committees, and enhance Iowa JPEC’s overall standing and rankings in the professional and academic communities.  

  • Work closely with Tippie College of Business leadership, University of Iowa Center for Advancement staff, and the Iowa JPEC Advisory Council to secure private, corporate, and government grant support to fund expansion of Iowa JPEC entrepreneurship programs and initiatives. 

  • Lead a team of professional staff who manage a portfolio of entrepreneurship training and support programs designed to drive new venture formation and growth of small-to-medium size enterprises across the campus and state of Iowa.

The award-winning Department of Business Analytics in the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa invites applications for one or more tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level starting August 2024.

The Department



Analytics is the transformation of data into insight for better decision making, and Business Analytics is the application of Analytics to Business. As the process for transforming data into insight is inherently multi-disciplinary, Business Analytics lies at the intersection of Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Big Data, Applied Mathematics (particularly Optimization), Operations, and Business.



The Department of Business Analytics in the Tippie College of Business has been at the forefront of research in Analytics for decades and, as the recipient of the 2021 INFORMS UPS George D. Smith Prize, was recently honored as a top department in the world for preparing students for careers in analytics.



The Department has particular research strengths in predictive analytics in the areas of health care, social issues, text, and social media, and faculty members have developed key methodologies in data mining, social-network analysis and mathematical optimization.  The Department is also internationally known for work in supply-chain design and transportation.



The Department of Business Analytics offers a BBA in Business Analytics and Information Systems, an MS in Business Analytics (both part-time and full-time programs), as well as a PhD degree.  Through its Tippie Analytics Cooperative, the Department is actively engaged with local, national, and Fortune 500 companies to continually enhance and improve student learning. The Department also hosts an annual international Analytics Case Competition and Women in Analytics and Leadership Conference.

Position Details:

The Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa invites applications for one or more non-tenure Instructional Track Faculty Position(s) in Business Communication at the level of Lecturer, Associate Professor of Instruction, or Full Professor of Instruction starting January 2024. Positions are 100% time (4 courses per fall and spring semester). Appointments are renewable and contingent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding. For more information about the Instructional Faculty policy, refer to the Operations Manual, III 10.11.



Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appropriate background checks (e.g. criminal background and credential checks) will be conducted.

The primary teaching area is business communication. In addition to teaching, faculty members are expected to participate in committee service and curriculum development. Faculty teaching 4 courses per semester receive grading support for major communications assignments.



Key Areas of Responsibility




  • Provide primary instruction in a required undergraduate core course of business communication and team building to students in the Tippie College of Business. Course section size is approximately 28 students.

  • Development of own course material adhering to departmental guidelines and learning objectives.  Maintain course management website and provide student feedback and grading in a timely manner.

  • Participate in college, departmental, and Frank Center service, including attending required meetings, committee service, mentoring business communication adjunct faculty, and participating in business communication course design and improvement.
