A team of business analytics students from the Tippie College of Business recently took first place in the AXS National Collegiate Sports Analytics Championship.

The team was made up of Brayden Boche, Haley Stessman, Kayla Van Langen, and Noah Highsmith. In addition to the team victory, Boche and Stessman finished in the top ten individually.

The competition was sponsored by AXS, a sports and ticket sales outlet. Competitors were provided datasets of ticket sales data by an anonymous NHL team and asked to analyze the data for patterns. Each competitor had six hours to analyze more than 500,000 rows of data and had then present their individual findings to industrial professionals in a five-minute presentation. They were judged on the quality of their analysis, actionable insights, communication, presentation, and integrity.
