"At the core of the issues is people losing their jobs at the start of the pandemic," Nuray Akin said, a visiting associate professor of economics at the University of Iowa.

Akin says while the pandemic started over two years ago, it is still affecting companies worldwide. Firms ratcheted down their production in 2020, anticipating lower demand. Now the wheels of restarting normal levels of supply are moving very slowly.
