The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded a $1.1 million grant to the Tippie College of Business and the Healthier Workforce Center of the Midwest in the College of Public Health. Researchers will use the five-year grant to investigate better methods of training supervisors to manage employees who work remotely. With working from home likely here to stay even after the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers will develop a training regimen for lower-level managers to more effectively and more confidently manage their employees who work remotely while focusing on both maintaining productivity and worker well-being. Lead investigators are Beth Livingston, assistant professor of management and entrepreneurship in the Tippie College of Business, and Diane Rohlman, professor of environmental and occupational health in the College of Public Health and director of the Healthier Workforce Center of the Midwest. Co-investigators are Amy Colbert and Stephen Courtright, professors of management and entrepreneurship in the Tippie College of Business.
