The Tippie College of Business has received a pair of gifts from alumni that will allow for the continued strengthening of its risk management and insurance education and research program.

The gifts will provide a fellowship for faculty who teach in the risk management and insurance program within the college’s Department of Finance and Vaughan Institute of Risk Management and Insurance, and a scholarship for a doctoral student studying insurance and risk management issues.

The Hentges Family Faculty RMI Fellowship was endowed by a gift from Nick Hentges (BBA81), an insurance graduate from Tippie, and his wife, Mary. The Flores RMI Ph.D. Fellowship Fund was endowed by a gift from Theodore Flores (BBA76) and Sue Flores (BSN76); Theodore is a marketing graduate from Tippie and long-time member of the Vaughan Institute Advisory Board, and Susan is a graduate of the University of Iowa’s College of Nursing. Both Hentges and Flores have had long and successful careers in the risk management and insurance industry.

The college recently announced a new Risk Management and Insurance major, launching fall 2023, that capitalizes on the college’s long history of insurance education and research and the university’s location in one of the top insurance states in the country. The major will allow students to receive a bachelor’s degree in the field and prepare for careers in insurance. The college currently offers a certificate in risk management and insurance, which will continue.
