GMAT/GRE Waived for 2022 Enrollment

The Professional MBA Program has lifted the GMAT/GRE requirement for enrollment in Spring, Summer, and Fall 2022. No score is required to apply, nor at any point in the program.See Admissions for details.

However, if you decide to submit a GMAT or GRE score with your application, it can serve to strengthen your application.

The below information reflects our "typical" policy, and applies only for applicants to Spring 2023 semester and later.

Qualify for a GMAT/GRE waiver

First, a disclaimer: the decision to grant a GMAT/GRE waiver is at the discretion of the Admissions Committee. To be considered for a waiver, you need to first meet minimum admission requirements.

We grant two types of GMAT/GRE waivers:

Master’s or terminal degree waiver

This applies if you have a master's degree or terminal degree (PhD, MD, JD, PharmD) that was both:

  1. Earned from an accredited U.S. postsecondary institution listed on the U.S. Department of Education’s list or the AACSB accreditation list. Advanced degrees from non-U.S. institutions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  2. Earned with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Professional experience and academics waiver

This waiver requires two criteria:

  1. Six or more years of full-time, post-undergrad professional work experience (see details), and
  2. A record of strong academic performance (see below)

Definition of professional work experience

We define professional experience as time spent working in a business environment with significant individual responsibilities, including some decision-making authority and personal accountability for the results of those decisions.

Professional backgrounds can vary, and we're looking for your work experience to generally demonstrate skills in independent problem solving, teamwork, critical thinking, time management, and management of people or teams. If you're a non-traditional student, we'll consider work experience gained before your bachelor’s.

Definition of strong academic performance

You can show strong academic performance in three ways.

  1. Undergraduate coursework. You will need a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and a B or better in two quantitative courses (algebra or higher). Your degree will need to be earned from an accredited U.S. post secondary institution listed on the U.S. Department of Education's list or the AACSB accreditation list. Degrees from non-U.S. institutions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  2. MBA coursework completed as part of MBA Access or while in PreMBA status*. We’ll look for a GPA of 3.0 in at least three MBA courses, including a B or better in two quant courses (Business Analytics, Managerial Economics, Corporate Financial Reporting, or Managerial Finance).
  3. Specific graduate coursework completed as part of Tippie’s graduate certificates in Business Analytics, Business Fundamentals, or Finance. You’ll need a GPA of 3.0 in at least three MBA courses, including a B or better in two quant courses.
Additional information

If you earn a C+ or below in a course while in PreMBA status or while enrolled in a graduate certificate, you won't be eligible for a GMAT/GRE waiver.

*The PreMBA entrance option was discontinued in 2021.
