Current University of Iowa students are encouraged to consider the Tippie College of Business. Here you can explore the world of business, diversify your skills with a second major, or prepare for more than one career.
Your advisor will help you decide on your major, plan for future semesters, fill you in on Tippie RISE requirements, and find community through student organizations. We'll also guide you through any challenges or roadblocks that may affect your admission.

BBA path

How do I get started on gaining admission to Tippie's BBA program? Well... there are two options:
- Pre-Business: Combine your studies to meet admission requirements for our BBA program while exploring different majors within our business core classes.
- Even if you don’t meet the admission requirements for our BBA, a BA or BS in Economics is the foundation you need to launch into any business career.
- Economics BA/BS: Build a flexible skillset you can apply across different fields and careers.

Requirements for Admission to Tippie's BBA Program
- 24 semester hours of college credit (from UI or transfer credit)
- No instances of academic misconduct
- Prerequisite, UI, and cumulative GPAs of at least 2.75
- Passing grades (including grades of P if earned spring 2020) in the following prerequisites or equivalents:
- ECON:1100 Principles of Microeconomics
- STAT:1030 Statistics for Business
- RHET:1030 Rhetoric
- BAIS:1500 Business Computing Essentials
- MATH:1350 Quantitative Reasoning for Business
- Completion of our Pre-Admission Requirement (PAR) form.
How to apply to BBA program – Standard Admission
Most University of Iowa students interested in the BBA program apply around the start of their second year.
After the deadline, you'll complete a Pre-Admission Requirement (PAR) form where you'll answer a series of questions related to admission to the BBA program, planning toward a major in Tippie, and creating a MyPlan that you will use in our Discover Business at Tippie course.
You need to meet the admissions requirements by the end of the semester in which you apply.

Fall admissions
Step 1: Check that you have met or are in progress with all requirements required for admission.
Step 2: Apply before March 1 by filling out the Change of College Application.
Step 3: After the application deadline, March 1, Tippie's Undergraduate Admissions office will send a link to our Pre-Admission Requirement (PAR) form.
Step 4: Official transcripts from other institutions must be sent to the Office of Admissions.
Step 5: Keep an eye out for a decision in June.
Spring admissions
Step 1: Check that you have met or are in progress with all requirements required for admission.
Step 2: Apply before October 1 by filling out the Change of College Application.
Step 3: After the application deadline, October 1, Tippie's Undergraduate Admissions office will send a link to our Pre-Admission Requirement (PAR) form.
Step 4: Official transcripts from other institutions must be sent to the Office of Admissions.
Step 5: Keep an eye out for a decision in late December or early January.

We won’t accept winter courses for admission.
Declaring a major
To declare a BBA major in Tippie, you must be admitted to the BBA program and have completed the following courses:
- ECON:1100 Principles of Microeconomics
- STAT:1030 Statistics for Business
- RHET:1030 Rhetoric
- BAIS:1500 Business Computing Essentials
- MATH:1350 Quantitative Reasoning for Business
- ECON:1200 Principles of Macroeconomics
- ACCT:2100 Introduction to Financial Accounting
Appeal an admissions decision
If you have applied and been denied admission to Tippie, you can submit an appeal to have the denial decision reviewed.
How to apply to Economics BA/BS Program(s)
Apply by filling out the Change of College Application before the semester deadline.
- Spring admissions: October 1st
- Fall admissions: March 1st

If you earned an AA degree from any Iowa or Illinois community college or Waldorf College, you’ll have met all the Iowa Core Requirements except world language and the Understanding Cultural Perspectives requirement (effective for anyone admitted to Iowa and Tippie Fall 2021 and after).

Did you miss the application deadline? Don't sweat it!
Step 1: Submit a change of college application on MyUI for the semester following your intended admission. For example, if you’re applying for Fall 2026 please choose Spring 2027 on your Change of College Application.
Step 2: Complete our Late Admission Form, after your request is received, a member of our admissions team will contact UI admissions to move your application to your intended admission date.
Scholarships
The University of Iowa Office of Admissions offers scholarships for transfer students.
