The Chair (Department Executive Officer) reports directly to the Dean of the College.  The Chair is a tenured full professor charged with providing strategic and operational leadership that promotes excellence in the faculty missions of research, education and service.  This charge includes working with faculty to develop the department’s vision and execute the department’s strategic plan.  The chair is also charged with providing leadership in the areas of faculty recruitment, development and retention, mentoring of junior faculty, overall quality improvement and budget management. 




The Chair works collaboratively with the Dean, Senior Associate Dean, faculty, program directors, and staff to advance education, scholarship, and service in a culture that promotes participation, collegiality, professionalism, and excellence.  The Chair assures delivery of effective curriculum, promotes research, and oversees service in a manner that meets program goals and supports the vision, mission and strategic plan of the department, college and university.  The Chair also serves as an important communication link between the department and other units of the college and university.

Professional & Scientific Positions

ADMIN SERVICES COORDINATOR(DEPARTMENTAL ADMINISTRATOR)

Job Duties:

The Departmental Administrator works with a second  Sr. Administrative Services Coordinator to perform administrative and fiscal responsibilities for three departments:  Accounting, Management and Organizations, and Management Sciences Departments and report to the DEOs. The ideal candidate will be a confident self-starter who can resource information and multi-task in a high volume open office serving faculty, staff and students across three departments. 




Work with Department Executive Officers for the three departments (DEO) to establish curriculum and yearly teaching schedules based on forecasts, with overall financial budgets in mind. Arrange for academic classrooms. Work with faculty, business school and university scheduling to insure accurate scheduling information. Schedule rooms for review sessions and meetings.




Prepare and maintain Calendar of Key Events for the Departments and their Programs and manage event planning for internal and external constituents.




Assist the DEOs and Faculty in assembling and distributing performance review materials for faculty, lecturers, PhDs, TAs and RAs.




Workshops and Recruiting: coordinate travel, lodging, local transportation and any special requirements of visiting lecturers.




Collect and submit documentation via workflow to Human Resources for new faculty. Assist with employment contracts for lecturers, teaching assistants, research assistants, new faculty members and visitors.




Payroll: Enter appointments for faculty, staff, teaching and research assistants. Assist with processing excess compensation for faculty, who teach in other programs (i.e. ExMBA, MBA- PM) or perform outside faculty services.




Administrator assists and is responsible for maintaining the final Department teaching matrix, salary spreadsheet for faculty and lecturers, and the TA-RA-PhD budget spreadsheet. This involves interfacing with the appropriate University, College and Foundation coordinators. 




The  Department Administrator assists and is responsible for maintaining the final internal Department operating budgets and faculty research budgets.
