Frontier Co-op Case Competition

This competition is right up your alley if you’re interested in developing student-driven solutions to a real-world sustainable business problem. The Tippie College of Business and student organizations, Enactus and Net Impact, have partnered with Frontier Co-op to host the 2021 Frontier Co-op Case Competition.

Kicking off the competition with a virtual launch event, Frontier Co-op will introduce a sustainable business problem for students to solve, with relevant training to compete in the competition provided. Throughout the competition, students will have the opportunity to meet with coaches, who will act as a resource for the teams as they develop their solutions. Teams will submit a video pitch of their solution, and a group of judges will decide who moves on to the final round. Finalists will present their sustainable business solution to a panel of judges for a chance to win cash prizes, totaling $4,500 this year. 

    Competition Timeline

    • February 19: 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.  – Virtual launch event 
    • February 20 - March 1: Coaching 
    • March 2: Video submission due 
    • March 3: Finalists notified 
    • March 5: 2:00 p.m. – Finals 

    Launch Event

    Connect with other teammates and receive training needed to solve Frontier Co-op's sustainable business problem. During the session, each team will be assigned a real-world sustainable business challenge developed by Frontier Co-op. A meal will be provided to students who attend the launch event. Students can pick-up food prior to the event at a location arranged by Tippie. After the launch event, students will have a week and a half to work through the business problem. All University of Iowa students are eligible to participate in the competition. 

    Register for the training

    Coaching

    During the competition, participants will receive guidance and feedback from faculty and professional coaches. Following the launch event, participants will work with coaches to articulate the value of their solution for customers, the business, stakeholders, the environment, and society. 

    Video Submission

    Teams must submit a video recording of their solution to the sustainable business problem by March 2nd. A panel of judges will evaluate the video submissions and select the top teams to move on to the final presentation. Finalists will be notified on March 3rd. 

    Frontier Co-op Case Competition Finals

    On March 5th, the finalists will present their sustainable business solution to a panel of judges. Finalists will be evaluated based on the quality of their presentation, effectiveness of the business solution, and the degree to which the team is making an impact towards addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals. Specific judging criteria will be provided to participants. The first, second and third place teams will win cash prizes.
