Porscha Tucker juggles a busy career, real estate deals, and a boat charter business—all while leveling up her skills and confidence in the Iowa MBA and business analytics program.
An MBA and a master’s in business analytics. Porscha does it all.
Porscha Tucker has an 8 to 5 job in finance. She’s a real estate investor. And she owns a boat charter company.
That’s more than enough to keep her busy, but she desired more. She was looking for a way to boost her career and grow her presentation and analytics skills.
Porscha wanted an MBA.

“When I was researching programs, I wanted to do an online one due to my busy schedule. I wanted something that had flexibility and affordability.”
When she came across the Iowa MBA website, she knew it was exactly what she was looking for. As an added bonus, Tippie also offered a Master of Science in Business Analytics—something else she wanted to add to her resume.
Because both programs were online, Porscha knew she could pursue both degrees and fit the coursework into her hectic schedule.
“And I didn’t want fear to be a defining factor to not go after something I wanted.”
Building connections … even online
Although all her courses were online, Porscha still felt she built meaningful relationships with classmates, especially through many opportunities to collaborate.
“As long as you’re open to making connections, they’re easy to make. And they’ve been effective for me.”
She also built strong relationships with faculty, including through their virtual office hours.
“The professors make themselves very available for any questions you may have, either over Zoom or email.”
Interacting with classmates from different industries also proved invaluable. Through group projects, she gained new perspectives and expertise from her peers across the world and across sectors.
“One thing that’s consistent about the world is it’s unpredictable. But the Iowa MBA has allowed me to step back and take a look at the big picture.”
Putting it all to work
Both her MBA and MSBA have proven valuable in every aspect of Porscha’s life: her full-time role as a lead financial analyst, her investing, and her busy life as an entrepreneur.
Her schedule may be bursting at the seams, but pursuing her degrees has been worth every minute.
“I’ve already received feedback from leaders that my confidence has increased, my analytical skills have improved, and I think about things more strategically. My presentation skills have also become better. I’m able to take the skills I’ve learned in class and apply them to my everyday life.”
Porscha knows the Iowa MBA can benefit others, too, and she’s happy to recommend the program. In fact, one of her coworkers recently started his studies after Porscha encouraged him.
Her advice to others?
“Just do it. I was on the fence whether to go back to school or not. Would I have the time to dedicate to something that’s so demanding? But now that I’m in it, I’m very appreciative of the experiences I’ve been able to gain.”
