The hottest intersection in business education

There was a time when companies needed a computer scientist to mine their data, a finance grad to put it in business context, and a manager to lead change and gain buy-in. Not anymore. Tippie’s MBA/M.S. in business analytics is the conduit to one person who can do it all.

Your MBA gives you command over all aspects of business. You see the connection between marketing and supply chain. You can read a 10-K and know where a company is headed. You understand people—collaborating, influencing, maximizing performance, and motivating to reach a common goal.

Your business influence is fueled by your ability to gather, analyze, and make sense of data—skills you’ll acquire through the master’s in business analytics.

The power of the MBA/M.S. cannot be overstated. Trust us on this. You’re about to become indispensable.

At a glance

After applying to the joint degree program, you can complete the requirements for the MBA or the M.S. first, or complete both at the same time; it’s up to you.

Flexible; estimated 8 to 10 semesters, or about 4 years

Apply as soon as you know you’d like to pursue the joint degree. You can start the joint program even if you’ve already begun the MBA or the MS.

Test scores
Neither program currently has a test score requirement.

The tuition per class is the same for both programs and the MBA/MS program: $750 per credit hour or $2,250 per course

Credit hours required
A total of 60 (33 MBA and 27 M.S.)

Courses, locations, format

The joint degree brings together two programs available in the same formats (in-person and online) and in the same off-campus locations (Cedar Rapids and Des Moines), within the same flexible, at-your-own-pace timing. That saves you from piecing together independent study and juggling to make schedules work.

Courses are typically delivered face-to-face, over an 8- or 11-week period, primarily on weeknights. You can complete the joint degree in approximately four years, but your credits are valid for up to 10 years if you need more time to finish.

What's so great about a joint degree?

Thought you’d never ask. Each degree program accepts, or cross-counts, courses from the other, which cuts the credits you need to earn both degrees by five courses. That’s 15 credit hours, the equivalent of about a year’s worth of classes, or about $10k in tuition.

Admissions criteria

The programs make admissions decisions independently, so you’ll need to meet the admissions requirements for each program.

Applying to both at the same time is recommended, but if your decision to do the MBA/M.S. comes after you’ve already started one program, that’s okay. Just apply to the other and express your interest in the joint program.

In order to take full advantage of the joint degree program’s efficiencies, you must be admitted to both programs for at least one semester. If you are working on the MBA or have completed the MBA already, we’re limited on the number of MBA hours that can apply toward the MS (9 credit hours if currently in MBA; 6 credit hours if MBA has been completed).
