The hottest intersection in business education

There was a time when companies needed a computer scientist to mine their data, a finance grad to put it in business context, and a manager to lead change and gain buy-in. Not anymore. Tippie’s MBA/MS in business analytics is the conduit to one person who can do it all.

Your MBA gives you command over all aspects of business. You see the connection between marketing and supply chain. You can read a 10-K and know where a company is headed. You understand people—collaborating, influencing, maximizing performance, and motivating to reach a common goal.

Your business influence is fueled by your ability to gather, analyze, and make sense of data—skills you’ll acquire through the master’s in business analytics.

The power of the MBA/MS cannot be overstated. Trust us on this. You’re about to become indispensable.

Program overview

After applying to the dual degree program, you can complete the requirements for the MBA or the MS first, or complete both at the same time; it’s up to you.

Duration

Flexible; estimated 8 to 10 semesters, or about 4 years

Timing

Apply as soon as you know you’d like to pursue the dual degree. You can start the dual program even if you’ve already begun the MBA or the MS.

Test scores

Neither program has a test score requirement.

Tuition

The tuition per class is the same for both programs and the MBA/MS program: $2,250 per course.

Credit hours required

A total of 60 s.h. at Iowa (33 MBA and 27 MS)

Courses, locations, format

The dual degree brings together two master’s degrees that you can earn entirely online. If you’re near Des Moines, some MBA courses may also be available in person.

Both programs offer the same flexible, at-your-own-pace timing, which saves you from piecing together independent study and juggling to make schedules work.

Courses are delivered over an 8- or 11-week period, primarily on weeknights. You can complete the dual degree in approximately four years, but you can take up to 10 years if you need more time to finish.

What's so great about a dual degree?

Thought you’d never ask. In a dual degree, each program accepts, or cross-counts, courses from the other, which cuts the credits you need to earn both degrees by five courses. That’s 15 credit hours, the equivalent of about a year’s worth of classes, and over $11k in tuition savings.

How to get started

The two programs make admissions decisions independently, so you’ll need to meet the admissions requirements for both the Iowa MBA and the MSBA.

Applying to both at the same time is recommended, but if your decision to do the MBA/MS comes after you’ve already started one program, that’s okay. Just apply to the other and express your interest in the dual program.

In order to take full advantage of the dual degree program’s efficiencies, you must be admitted to both programs for at least one semester.
