Your application checklist

You can start your Online MBA application at any time, and save your progress along the way. If you can't finish in one fell swoop, that's ok. You’ll create a login at the very start so you can come back later without losing your progress.

Before we can consider you for admission, you’ll need to submit the items that apply from the list below:

Resume

Submit your resume in the online application. You should be fully employed and have at least 18 months of full-time, professional work experience before you start classes. Work experience earned after receiving your undergraduate degree can be counted toward that 18-month number—however, if you are a non-traditional student, we can consider professional work experience gained before your bachelor's.

Transcripts

You can upload a copy of your transcript in the online application or request that your college/university send official copies to the University of Iowa directly. See details.

Official GMAT or GRE score report

Upload a copy of your score report within the online application. This is sufficient for the application review.

If offered admission, the official GMAT/GRE score report should be sent straight to us. Request score reports from MBA.com (GMAT) or ets.org/gre (GRE - institution code 6681).

To see if you’re eligible to waive the GMAT/GRE, check out the criteria for a waiver.

Personal essay

You’ll upload your one-page essay response in the online application. The prompt is, “Discuss your specific career objectives and how the Iowa MBA will contribute to the accomplishment of your objectives.”  Maximum length is one typed page. PDF, DOC, or DOCX file types accepted.

Recommenders

We’ll ask for names and contact information—not recommendation letters—for three recommenders in the online application. We’ll automatically send an email to each, asking them to complete a short online survey, where they'll rate you on a few criteria. You decide when the request goes out to them—just click the 'Send' button in the online application.

English proficiency

Most international candidates are eligible to waive the English proficiency test.

If any of these apply, check the ‘I meet the criteria for a waiver’ checkbox in the online application, under the ‘Test Scores' section.

  • You are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • You were educated in English for a previous degree (and can provide documents or other proof from your school)
  • You complete an admissions interview with a program representative.

If you do not meet the criteria for a waiver, visit the International Student Admission page for minimum scores and where to send your score report.

Application fee

  • Domestic applicants: $60
  • International applicants: $100

We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover cards.  Application fees are non-refundable and can be paid by credit card only.
