Stay one step ahead
According to a recent GMAC Corporate Recruiters survey, strategic skills are among the most important and sought-after by employers. That comes as no surprise: A well-developed strategy helps your organization map a path to achieve its long-term goals and align objectives across categories and departments.
A concentration in strategy will help you develop a deeper understanding of the tools and frameworks used to build a business strategy from the ground up. You’ll not only learn how to create a strategy that adds value to your organization, but also the steps to effectively implement it. Take four customized courses to add this concentration to your Iowa MBA—there’s no additional time commitment required.
Concentration curriculum
Four courses are required to earn your concentration. Courses are subject to change.
Required courses:
- Foundations in Strategy

Elective courses:

Certificate-only option
This certificate is designed for students in the Iowa MBA or for alumni who want to return for an additional credential as part of lifelong learning. While it is also open for professionals pursuing a credential independently from the MBA, one of the required courses has substantial pre-requisite coursework. To get started in the standalone certificate, you must submit a separate application, which will be available for Spring 2025.
