The numbers are only the beginning.
Numbers can tell you a lot. Knowing what to do with them? That’s where the MBA/MS comes in.
With the Master of Finance, you’ll dig deeper into finance through core courses and electives ranging from real estate and risk management to data programming. Add the MBA, and you’ll develop the leadership, strategic thinking, and broader business perspective to put that financial know-how to work.
The result? You’ll know your way around a balance sheet—and bring a perspective that belongs in the boardroom.
Program overview
After applying to both degree programs, you can complete the requirements for the MBA or the MS first, or complete both at the same time; it’s up to you.
Duration
Flexible; estimated 8 to 10 semesters, or about 3 to 4 years
Timing
Apply as soon as you know you’d like to pursue both degrees. You can start the second program even if you’ve already begun or finished the MBA or the MS.
Test scores
Neither program has a test score requirement.
Tuition
The tuition per class is the same for both programs and the MBA/MS program: $2,250 per course.
Credit hours required
A total of 60 s.h. minimum earned at Iowa toward the requirements of both degrees.
Courses, locations, format
Both master’s degrees can be earned entirely online.
Both programs offer the same flexible, at-your-own-pace timing, which saves you from piecing together independent study and juggling to make schedules work.
Courses are delivered over an 8-week period, primarily on weeknights. You can complete both degrees in approximately three to four years, but you can take up to 10 years if you need more time to finish.
What's so great about pursuing multiple Graduate & Professional Program degrees?
Here’s where the math gets interesting. Two degrees. Up to five fewer courses. You can probably see where this is going. Each program cross-counts courses from the other, saving you 15 credit hours, the equivalent of about a year’s worth of classes—and more than $11K in tuition.
How to get started
Both programs have the same admission requirements, but applicants need to apply to both programs.
Applying to both at the same time is recommended, but if your decision to do the MBA/MS comes after you’ve already started or even finished one program, that’s okay. Just apply to the other and express your interest in the second program.
